From our studio in Porto

How a moss picture is made

Every mossence piece is laid by hand, cushion by cushion, mat by mat, from preserved real moss. Here is how loose moss turns into a picture or a whole moss wall.

Four steps to a moss picture

1

Selecting pole moss

Pole moss grows in round, dense cushions. We sort every cushion by shape, size and colour so the finished picture looks lively and even.

2

Flat moss as the base

Flat moss comes as a soft mat. We lay it on the backing board, shape it and fix it in place, creating a calm, velvety base.

3

Combining textures

Contrast is what makes a moss picture: tall, round pole moss cushions next to flat moss, plus reindeer moss in light and dark green. Every combination is one of a kind.

4

Large surfaces, made to order

For receptions, offices or restaurants we create entire moss landscapes and moss logos, to your size and design, laid by hand in Porto.

Frequently asked questions

Is it real moss?

Yes. We use real moss that has been preserved. It keeps its natural texture and colour but no longer grows.

Does a moss picture need watering?

No. Preserved moss needs no water, no fertiliser and no sunlight. Just keep it out of direct sun and away from heaters.

Which types of moss do you use?

Mainly pole moss, flat moss and reindeer moss, depending on the design, combined with preserved plants.

Can I order my own design or logo?

Yes. With our made-to-order configurator you choose size, moss and finish and receive a free proposal.
